A vision of their restaurant began a year prior to Patti Schichel and Steve Mann
arriving at their current Muddy Waters location. As their eyes feasted upon their potential site, they loved the uniqueness of the building and the charm of the river.
Three months later on October 31, 2003, they owned the site and “took the building down to the bare walls," renovating it until March 1, 2004. The building, upon opening day, exhibited a transformation to an eclectic bar and restaurant with an atmosphere filled with creative flair and bohemian accents. Since that time , they have opened a charming multilevel deck with a view of both the Mississippi and St Croix Rivers. The lower deck provides a a more laid- back flair where patrons can now enjoy an addition called “Backwaters”, where the food is “casual chic”, the full bar serves tropical libations, and the “live” blues bands keep the music flowing.
A banquet facility that can seat 75 people is on the third level of the building.
A complete banquet menu and full service bar is available.
Savvy patrons know, that in addition to the atmosphere, an establishment is only as good as its food. Muddy Waters offers an American menu with a variety of items to enjoy from appetizers to lunch, dinner and desserts. Completely original, all items are made from fresh ingredients and Patti’s quote would be that “It’s all made from scratch.” Weekend fares include fresh seafood and luscious prime rib, the BBQ ribs and salmon are smoked on site. A complete and innovative menu includes the basics, but offers an ingenious array of regular items and Patti’s signature dishes.
Steve is the “go to Man” at Muddy Waters. A native of Vermillion, MN, he comes from a family of eleven.
With many years in the construction field, Steve welcomed the challenge to design and build his own restaurant. Being the guy who can “do anything with building materials”, the structure, the soundness, the beauty and the warmth of this building is attributed to his talent and hard work.
A native of St Paul, Patti is one of fourteen children, making her way in the world of American cuisine. Patti attended chef school in the early 80’s. Her career has spanned 25 years, beginning as the head banquet chef for the Hilton Hotels until 1989. She left that position to open as head chef at The LeVee Café in Hastings. After twelve years, she pursued her dream to open and operate her own business where she could also tap her artistic and creative side. In addition to her fresh and challenging menus, the original and constantly changing decor is truly her own.
